We are adding a Sr. Quality Specialist to our Kiewit team to support Heavy Civil Infrastructure Construction projects that involve earthwork, grading, site balancing, utilities, drainage, underground trenching, stormwater systems,  paving, and concrete aspects of Transportation, Power and Water projects, around the United States.  In this role, you will provide Quality oversight, for the construction team, to ensure our projects are built to the quality requirements, specifications and client requirements required, performing testing, inspections and general quality guidance and training for the construction team to ensure all quality control activities are planned, executed and documented according to the contract and our internal quality program.  At its core, your role is protect the project from risk.  You will report to a Quality Manager at the site and will be working on projects that may be 6 months to multi-years in terms of duration with great mentoring and development to take you to the next level.

District Overview

Kiewit's Central District operates in the central and south-central regions of the United States. We build heavy civil and transportation projects, including highways, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams and tunnels. With one of the largest equipment fleets in the region, we can mobilize to any location as a full-service construction team capable of self-performing mass grading, drainage, bridge construction, aggregate production, paving, rail and utility construction. 

Location

As a Sr Quality Specialist, you will support projects around the United States.    We support projects in CO, MT, WY, NM, ND, SD, NE, KS, MO, IA, MN, KY and TN.    In this role, you must be willing to travel to project sites as needed and visit our district office in Lone Tree Colorado occasionally for training and meetings.  When assigned to a project site, we provide per diem and trips home.  Your initial project will be located in Louisville KY .  

Responsibilities

Develops and maintains the project’s inspection and test plans (ITPs) for earthwork, utilities, drainage, structures, paving, and other civil scopes.
•     Coordinates daily inspections and testing to match production schedules so crews are never waiting on quality sign‑offs.
•     Performs or oversees verification inspections for high‑risk activities and ensures acceptance criteria are met.
Documentation and compliance management
•     Ensures all inspection reports, test results, NCRs, corrective actions, and quality records are complete, accurate, and audit‑ready.
•     Reviews and approves inspection/test results for compliance with contract documents, codes, and standards.
•     Manages source and receiving inspections for permanent materials (pipe, rebar, aggregates, structural components).
Cross‑functional coordination
•     Works closely with operations to build work packages that clearly define required inspections, tests, and documentation before work begins.
•     Leads pre‑activity meetings to confirm readiness and prevent rework.
•     Communicates proactively with owners, third‑party inspectors, and design partners to address concerns before they escalate.
Supplier and subcontractor quality oversight
•     Reviews supplier quality documentation for contract compliance.
•     Ensures subcontractors follow Kiewit’s quality program and project‑specific requirements.
•     Verifies that materials and equipment meet specifications before installation.
Cost and risk management
•     Forecasts and tracks costs for third‑party testing and inspection services.
•     Identifies quality‑related risks early and works with project leadership to mitigate them.
•     Helps prevent cost impacts from rework, schedule delays, or non‑conforming work.
Leadership and mentoring
•     Guides junior quality specialists and field engineers on quality processes, documentation, and technical requirements.
•     Sets expectations for quality culture on the project, reinforcing Kiewit’s standards for safety, workmanship, and accountability. 

Qualifications

  • Self-starter with exceptional organization and interpersonal skills.  
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quality or related field preferred.  Minimum of 5 years in Quality and field inspection, quality auditing, and surveillance for construction is required with a BS degree.  If Associates Degree, at least 8 plus years in a Quality Specialist role, performing functions as outlined above.  Working knowledge of the inspection and testing techniques for Asphalt, concrete, soil, and other related inspection/testing performed for Heavy Civil Construction.  Must have experience managing documentation for the project, as well as experience scheduling and overseeing 3rd party testing, developing inspection reports, and corrective actions and ensuring materials and equipment meet company standards and specifications.   
  • Working knowledge of construction industry codes relating to area of expertise (i.e. ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC, etc.)
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures, tracking and reporting, material/equipment quality review and experience reviewing completed work packages to ensure drawings/specifications and client requirements are met.   Prefer advanced skills in MS Office and knowledge/use of AI is preferred
  • Experience as a Quality Specilaist with Heavy Civil Construction is required, either through a GC, or engineering/consulting firm or testing firm.
