Job Description

Summary

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, in partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital, is seeking a Research Coordinator I. This role supports pediatric orthopedic research projects from study planning through data collection, analysis, and presentation. Responsibilities include assisting with patient recruitment and education, managing research data and records, maintaining study supplies, and collaborating with multidisciplinary faculty. This position provides hands-on research experience in a collaborative, clinical, and research-focused environment. Job Duties

  • Supports research projects from hypothesis development through data collection, manuscript preparation, and presentation at national and international conferences; contributes independently to approved studies and collaborates with multidisciplinary orthopedic faculty across sub-specialties. (40%)
  • Screens, interviews, recruits, and educates patients on study participation; evaluates eligibility under the direction of senior staff. (25%)
  • Performs clinical and research data collection and entry; maintains accurate databases and study records. (20%) 
  • Maintains inventory and orders research supplies and equipment. (10%) 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. No experience required with preferred degree. 
  • Current medical student or recent graduate with an interest in pediatric orthopedics and a career goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
  • Prior research experience or demonstrated interest in research.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff and research participants.
  • Participate in clinical and/or basic research projects over a 12-month period and contribute to peer-reviewed presentations and/or publications.
