Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Nursery Nurse / Nursing Associate The closing date is 10 April 2026 We are looking for enthusiastic, hardworking and forward thinking band 4 Nursery Nurse or Nursing Associate to join our dynamic and friendly neonatal team on a permanent basis. We have an 18 bedded level 2 unit, looking after babies from 27 weeks gestation which includes 2 ITU cots, 4 HDU cots, 12 special care cots as well as a 9 bedded transitional care unit. We provide stabilisation for babies below 27 weeks in emergency cases, and work alongside transport services and the West Midlands Operational Delivery Neonatal Network to transfer them to more suitable NICUs. We have a seven day a week outreach service, caring for babies once they have been discharged from the Neonatal Unit. We are passionate about, and promote baby friendly standards and family integrated care and have achieved our Silver BLISS accreditation, working towards gold and stage 2 of baby friendly accreditation in 2025. We have also been graded as outstanding from the Care Excellence accreditation in May 2025. Job responsibilities Key Duties: Contribute and deliver the direct care of baby and their family under direction of registered nurse Undertake the prescribed care of the baby including the administration of medication to babies (Nursing Associate only) Assist the doctor in undertaking routine procedures for the baby Deliver care relating to hygiene, nutrition and basic nursing. Recognise, report to the nurse in charge and document any changes in the baby's condition Report to the nurse in charge and document all details of care given Have an understanding of individualised and family approach to care including social and cultural backgrounds in accordance with the Trust policies. Take responsibility for housekeeping duties Take responsibility for incoming baby results and reporting results to appropriate senior staff Contribute to health promotion and assist in setting standards of care. Support family in parenting role; facilitating their learning of practical skills within the role. Responsibility for taking Blood Sugars, blood spots and SBRs, to include documentation of and acting upon, including reporting of result to appropriate senior staff. Responsibility for escorting babies to other areas of the hospital setting, e.g. x-ray, scan, outpatient clinic and, where appropriate, transfers to other sites / hospitals Work effectively within a team. Adopt and adapt to change in accordance with the needs of the organisation and professional innovation. Communicate effectively with other members of the health care team, patients and relatives and midwife. Recognise potential areas of conflict preventing these whenever possible, reporting to nurse in charge. The ability to work in both the Neonatal Unit and the Transitional Care Unit on a rotational basis as the service requires. Teach basic care to parents. Empower women who choose to breast-feed in accordance with Trust Policy and baby friendly. Encourage and support parents to care for babies needing care in the Neonatal Unit/Transitional Care Unit. Attend Trust mandatory training days as appropriate. Attend specific Trust mandatory training days to enable appropriate knowledge and skill regarding specialist equipment in Neonatal Unit / Transitional Care Unit. Recognise any personal and role limitations and take appropriate action. Be conversant with and remain up to date with all Trust and Local Policies. Be aware of and maintain the standards agreed within the organisation reporting to the nurse in charge as necessary. Be aware of current research findings in relation to practise. Report any untoward incidents / accidents or concerns to the Ward Manager. Ensure completion of accident / incident form in accordance with Trust Policy. Ability to work in a changing environment, including rotation between Neonatal Unit and Transitional Care Unit. To have an understanding of Neonatal care in hospital.
