Job Description

Senior Helpers of Greater Grand Rapids is an independently owned and operated franchise of SH Franchising LLC servicing the western and northern suburbs of Grand Rapids, MI. Our services range from companion and personal care to specialized support for those with chronic conditions such as Parkinson's, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s. What is a Caregiver? As a personal caregiver you will play a critical role in the success of Senior Helpers as you will be the face of our organization on a daily basis for our clients. We are looking for team members that value the dignity of all people and are passionate about helping others age in place and live their best lives possible. You will provide professional care services to help our clients maintain their independence and to assist them with the activities of daily living and assist them with household and family support services. This role is an hourly, non-exempt position, with a starting hourly rate of $15/hour based on applicable skills and experience.   • Competitive Pay - This position pays between $15-$19/hr based on applicable skills and prior experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Companionship & conversation
  • Light housekeeping
  • Household management
  • Errands
  • Apparel selection (i.e. laying out clothes)
  • Meal planning & preparation
  • Laundry & linen changing
  • Medication reminders
  • Transportation using client’s vehicle
  • Ambulation of client
  • Assistance with daily living activities (personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, eating, etc.)
  • Walking assistance
  • Assist client to and from bed
  • Monitor Alzheimer’s & Dementia client
In sleep-over or live-in situations
  • Prepare sleeping area at night
  • Assist client as needed requested during the course of the night; let office know if this is requested more than twice a night
Additional Requirements
  • Document activities in the Care Plan software system (if applicable).
  • Record daily hours worked and daily services performed on the Weekly Time Sheet and Service Log, review with client, and submit the signed form weekly by the required deadline.
  • Report any significant client changes to the office immediately.
  • Follow all policies and procedures as outlines in the Senior Helpers Employee Handbook and Training Manual.

CRITICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to treat clients with dignity and respect.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English at an average adult level.
  • Ability to successfully complete Personal Care Services training and skills assessment
  • Ability to drive to work and have a vehicle available during assignments.
  • Must have flexibility with schedule and be able to work various shifts and days
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations
  • Demonstrate tact, patience, and good hygiene
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Complete any required health screenings as required
  • Valid driver’s license with no serious driving violations
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening prior to employment with Senior Helpers.
  • Proof of passing first aid/CPR training within 3 months of employment

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* More than 1 year of Home Care industry or Caregiving work experience PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDED BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.   • Ability to safely assist client in and out of a vehicle and safely lift a wheelchair or walker weighing up to 50lbs into and out of a vehicle.
  • Use arms, legs, feet, hands and fingers to assist clients when performing tasks of daily living.
  • Frequently move the whole body to perform tasks such as lifting, light housekeeping, walking and driving.
  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Ability to climb flight of stairs several times during shift
  • Ability to see well (naturally or with correction)
